巴莫特却对这位高高瘦瘦的大个子很感兴趣，鼓励恩比德打篮球，并且去美国上高中以及大学。恩比德受到了很大的触动。

　　2011年，17岁的非洲排球少年恩比德带着篮球梦，来到了美国佛罗里达州的不知名的Monteverde Prep高中。那时候的恩比德实在太瘦了，胳膊和腿看起来很细小，没有挂多少肉，与周琦前两年的身形有一拼。
